  • What can I do to help my wig stay on better?

There are a few ways to help your wig feel tighter and snug, and to help it properly fit to your head. First and foremost, you must the correct size wig that fits your head. Taking accurate measurements before ordering your wig is very important when ordering from your wig specialist. (see measuring chart PG.). A different wonderful product you can try is the HEADLINE IT!  A moisture wicking liner that is adhered to the inside of your wig that can help to keep your wig from slipping or moving.

  • What can I do to help with the occasional discomfort of wearing my wig?

There are many different products to help make the wearing of your wig more comfortable. Wearing a cotton wig liner will give you a softer more comfortable barrier in between you and your wig. If your wig feels a little loose and unsecure, Belle of Hope carries a product called the SureGrip Band, a silicone band that is worn around the head and fastens in the back with Velcro for easy adjustments. This product can also help with the discomfort from pressure points caused by your wig.

  •  How often should you wash your wig?

Belle of Hope recommends washing your wig every 6-8 wears. How often you wear your wig and what you do in your wig, as well as your environment and general lifestyle and the products you wash your wig with will also affect how often you will want to wash your wig.

  •  Can I sleep in my wig?

Sleeping in your wig, hair extensions, or any type of hair system is not recommended. This can lessen the integrity of the fiber or hair and the cap as well as cause tangling. We recommend and offer several different soft caps or scarfs for wearing while sleeping. We also offer wig stands and mannequin heads for different size wigs for overnight storage.

  • Can I cut the lace on my lace front wig?

Not all wigs with a lace front need to be cut. Ready to wear lace front wigs are already pre-cut and ready to wear out of the box. We do not recommend cutting this lace, but if absolutely necessary, please take your wig to a stylist that specializes in wigs. Your wig specialist should only cut the lace with pinking shears to properly cut the lace as desired. This will help prevent any unraveling or damage to the lace front of your wig.

  • If I need the bangs trimmed on my wig, can I cut them myself?

We do not recommend cutting your wig yourself unless you have been properly trained. Belle of Hope recommends taking your wig to a stylist that specializes in wigs for any alterations to your wig.

  • What type of products should I use to care for my synthetic wig?

We recommend Jon Renau Shampoo for Synthetic Fibers, along with the Jon Renau Conditioning Spray for Synthetic Fiber. HD Smooth Detangler Spray is also great on all Synthetic Fibers which can be used daily to help prevent any tangles or frizzing of your synthetic hair piece.

  •  What kind of products should I use on my human hair wigs?

For Human Hair wigs and hair systems we recommend using the Jon Renau Human Hair Care Kit which features everything you will need to care for your human hair wigs. The Argon Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner are formulated to cleanse and condition alternative hair and will help it maintain it’s integrity. The HH Care kit also features a Heat Treat Thermal Styling Spray which protects human hair and HD fiber from heat styling by adding a protective barrier in between the hair and the heat-styling tools. The Argon Treatment mist can also be used as a deep conditioning treatment when blended together with the Argon Smooth conditioner. The Jon Renau Brand 3-way Versatile Hair Spray is perfect as a holding spray, finishing spray and working spray.

  •  How long does it take for my wig to completely dry?

Depending what your wig is made of i.e. synthetic fiber or Human hair, your wig can take up to 24 hours to completely dry. Human hair can absorb some of the water while washing making it take a little longer to dry as opposed to a synthetic fiber will dry faster. The cap and material used to design the wig are going to take a bit long to dry.

We recommend that you allow your synthetic and HD fiber products to naturally air dry while hanging on a wig stand to allow air to get to the inside of your wig. You can use your hair dryer on your Human Hair wig to help maintain smooth and manageable hair. Never use any type of heat styling tools such as a hair dryer or flat/curling iron on your synthetic or HD as you will melt your hair.

  •  What temperature should I use on my HD wig?

The HD fiber can withstand temps up 350 Degrees F, although we recommend using a temperature of 270 – 280 degrees F to avoid any damage to the fiber.

  •  Can I use my blow dryer on my HD wig?

Yes, you are able to use your blow dryer on your HD wig but we do recommend that you allow your HD wigs to dry naturally. The HD fiber does not absorb any water making the drying time rather short. If you do choose to use a blow dryer on your HD wig we recommend you use it on a cool temperature setting with a wide tooth comb to style. We also recommend using your Jon Renau Smooth Detangler spray.

  •  Am I able to perm or color my Human Hair Wig?

Belle of Hope recommends that you do not try to perm or color any brand of human hair wigs. Most factories use a textile-like dye on human hair after its been lightened to guarantee the color won’t fade. This type of dye is very difficult to remove and does not react well with human hair chemicals services.

  • Where do I attach my easivolume?

Easivolume is designed to be attached at the back of the head, just on or near the occipital bone of the head. It is a single piece with a honeycomb weft that will add volume and fullness to fine or thinning hair. It is important that your easivolume match the length of your natural hair and not be longer for it is designed to add fullness not length. If you are looking for length to your natural hair, we recommend the easiXtend in either human hair or HD fiber.

  •  What are the advantages to the different styles of wig caps?

The style of cap and construction you chose will depend greatly on you and your needs. There are a few things that will help you to decide which cap is the best for you such as: price lifestyle and temporary or permanent hair loss. If you are looking for a wig to assist with temporary hair loss, keeping within a small budget, or just want a low maintenance style we recommend the classic O’solite cap construction. These are both fully wefted caps that are east to care for and wear as well as offer a lower price point. As a rule, the more labor that is needed as well as the more natural the wig looks usually depicts a higher price.

A Mono Top Wig will give you a natural appearance of hair growth at the top, allowing multi-directional parting. 100% hand-tied caps will give you the most natural look and feel, mimicking natural growth throughout a ready to wear lace front wig gives the most natural looking hairline, without the need of adhesives, tapes, or cutting of the lace.

  • Will my wig stay on without tape or adhesives?

Yes. Although there are some types of wigs that might need some encouragement to stay on your head, most of our wigs can be worn without any kind of tape or adhesive. Jon Renau brand wigs are made specifically to be worn without any tape or adhesives, however you can still wear them for added security if you are doing something that might cause your wig to become displaced.

  • Can you use Argon smooth products on Synthetic Hair?

Synthetic hair cannot absorb the product due to it being a different fiber however, if you find that your wig has lost some luster and shine, using the Argan smooth conditioners can help bring it back to life.

  • How long can I expect to use my synthetic wig?

This will greatly depend on the care that is taken to maintain the wig. If you are planning on wearing your synthetic wig every day, you can expect it to last anywhere for 6 – 9 months or maybe more depending on your lifestyle and environment, and the proper care and maintenance.

  •  How long will my human hair wig last?

Human hair wigs that are worn everyday can usually last up to 9 months if the proper care and maintenance is maintained. The cap construction and base material will play a large part in this as the more natural a system looks the less durable it is.

  • What does “REMY” Human hair mean?

Remy human hair is hair that is collected or sorted uniformly from multiple sources, with root and tip end running in the same direction so that the cuticle runs the same direction. This is a very tedious and time consuming process for factories, which is why there is a higher cost for Remy Human Hair Items.

  • What does “Pre-permed” mean on a human hair wig?

Pre-perming is a process done in the factory top certain human hair systems that chemically changes the curl pattern. This is featured in our Smartlace Kate and Angie wigs to assist in holding curl and movement to the hair style due to their longer hair length.

  • Do the HD wigs hold their curl pattern after washing?

Yes. All synthetic and high heat fibers have a ‘Baked-in” curl pattern and style to the hair and will not react to moisture. HD fiber will not change its style unit manipulated by heat (i.e. curling irons, flat iron, etc.)

  • What type of adhesive should I use?

Tape and adhesives are make to adhere to different materials. You should choose one that works with the base type of the system you want to apply it to (i.e. lace tape for lace base). If you would like to purchase tape, please feel free to contact us to help you decide what type of tape will work best with your wig.

  • Do all wigs contain latex?

The base material of our wigs and wig caps do not contain latex. If the lace on your Smartlace wig is irritating the skin underneath, it could be for a number of reasons. One reason could be that the wig you are wearing is to lose and is moving around on your head causing some scratching and irritation to your skin. If the wig is too small and tight on your head, the extra pressure could be causing some discomfort. Another good reason to make sure that you purchase the correct size wig for you. Applying hypoallergenic talcum powder under the Smartlace front can help with irritation.

  • What can I do if my wig is too small/large?

If your wig is too small/large, you can have some adjustments made to the cap. This is similar to having your clothes taken to be altered by a tailor. You can take your wig to a professional and have it altered to fit your head shape and size. They will measure and see where the wig needs to be changed to fit you more comfortably. The SURE GRIP BAND can also help if your wig is too big, to fill in some spaces and allow the wig to grip better. There are also adjustment straps on the inside of most wigs to allow you to makeup to a ½” inch alteration larger or smaller.
